Luka Doncic delivered a historic 53-point performance to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 124-118 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. With this display, he surpassed Michael Jordan for the highest point total through the first nine games of a season since the NBA-ABA merger, reaching 361 points.
The Lakers now sit atop the Western Conference with an 8-2 record, a start that has left head coach JJ Redick searching for words to describe his star player's impact. During the comeback win, Doncic also converted a 62-foot shot to close the second quarter.
The guard is currently averaging 40.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game.
