Usman Khawaja has stood by his claims that the entire Australian squad knew about ball-tampering efforts during the 2018 series against South Africa. In his upcoming memoir, Sabr, the retired batter asserts that these tactics were used in both the third Test in Cape Town and the match preceding it.
While Darren Lehmann and Michael Vaughan expressed disapproval of these assertions, Khawaja defended his motives in a social media video, arguing that Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft were the only ones who faced the consequences for a collective failure.
Khawaja also revealed that two unnamed teammates objected to his push for shared accountability after the Cape Town match. He stated that he contacted Pat Cummins to ensure the information remained private until the team had left South Africa, denying that the book's release is a mere marketing ploy to drive sales.
