Newcastle forward Leatherbarrow has earned praise from coach McFarland following his recent international recognition. The Macclesfield native, who joined the club from Exeter Chiefs in 2023, recently signed a two-year extension as part of a squad overhaul.
He is currently vying for playing time in a competitive back row alongside Tom Christie, Hoskins Sotutu, and Max Hicks. Leatherbarrow contributed to the team's first Premiership win of the season by subbing in for Hicks during the victory over Sale Sharks.
McFarland noted that the team's consistent form, having secured points in all four league matches, is helping his players gain visibility with national selectors.
