Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay 10-1 in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night at Tropicana Field and now leads the series 3-0. The Brewers need one more win, in Game 4 on Tuesday at 8 pm ET, to claim the first championship in franchise history.
The game turned in the fifth inning. Milwaukee scored eight runs with two outs, and the inning ran on seven straight hits. It began when Christian Yelich was ruled safe at second base after a replay challenge, loading the bases. The Brewers had 16 hits in the game against three for the Rays.
Jackson Chourio had four hits, two of them in the fifth, including an RBI double. Robert Gasser, the Brewers' starter, threw six shutout innings and allowed one hit with three strikeouts.
Freddy Peralta lasted 4 2/3 innings for Tampa Bay. The Rays' only run came in the ninth, on a double by Yandy Diaz off Brandon Woodruff, who was pitching for the first time since 4 July.
The Brewers are 10-1 this postseason and have won eight straight, which ties the record for consecutive wins in a single postseason. A win in Game 4 would make them the first team to sweep both a championship series and the World Series.
For Tampa Bay, the history is stark: no team has come back from a 3-0 deficit in the World Series.
