The Carolina Panthers delivered another high-powered offensive performance Sunday night, defeating the Detroit Lions 32-26 to improve to 2-2 on the season. Quarterback Bryce Young and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan led the charge, with McMillan recording 14 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 targets.
Young’s development continued to impress, as he now appears on pace to shatter Carolina’s single-season touchdown record of 36. The Panthers also showcased a balanced attack, with running back Chuba Hubbard contributing 120 rushing yards, pushing the team’s total offense past 400 yards for the game.
Despite missing key defensive players, including both starting corners Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, Carolina’s offense proved unstoppable, leaving the Lions’ struggling defense—already the NFL’s worst in points allowed—with little chance to recover. The win also puts Young in the conversation for elite quarterback contracts, with his production this season outpacing peers like Houston’s C.J.
Stroud. Meanwhile, Detroit’s defensive struggles deepened, as they ranked last in total defense, third-down conversion rate, and red-zone defense entering the matchup, compounded by injuries to defensive backs Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch.
