Manchester City earned a dramatic 1-0 away derby triumph at Old Trafford despite seeing Phil Foden dismissed with a red card 23 minutes into the contest. Erling Haaland delivered the controversial decisive strike for Enzo Maresca's side, while Michael Carrick's Manchester United failed to capitalize on their numerical superiority.

Maresca managed the difficult circumstances by making just a single substitution before the 80th minute, swapping Rayan Cherki for Iliman Ndiaye during the interval.

United had started brightly through Marcus Rashford, who struck the woodwork with a free-kick prior to the break.
