Glasner haunts Emery again as Forest win at Aston Villa

Nottingham Forest secured a 2-1 away triumph over Aston Villa at Villa Park, extending manager Oliver Glasner's undefeated streak against Unai Emery to eight encounters. Following an early Villa opportunity where Victor Lindelof hit the woodwork and was thwarted by Mats Sels, and a late first-half miss by Neco Williams set up by James McAtee, Forest opened the scoring 45 seconds into the second half courtesy of a 25-yard blast from £50m signing Liam Delap.

Tyrone Mings subsequently blocked a Dan Ndoye attempt to keep Villa within reach, prompting Emery to introduce Johan Manzambi and Ibrahim Mbaye. The substitutions paid off in the 73rd minute when Alysson headed in an equalizer supplied by John McGinn for his debut strike with the club.

Disaster struck for the hosts with ten minutes left on the clock when Ian Maatsen sustained an injury from a McAtee tackle and had to limp off the pitch. Because Villa had previously exhausted every substitution, they were forced to finish the contest a man down, an incident that later incensed Emery.

Forest capitalized on their numerical edge in the 88th minute when Morgan Gibbs-White linked up with Igor Jesus, who converted the decisive goal. The defeat leaves a rebuilding Villa squad languishing in the relegation positions with merely one point across their opening four league fixtures.
