Mercedes driver George Russell has expressed serious safety concerns regarding the extreme weather conditions experienced during qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. He warned that racing in such heavy rain, which caused significant visibility issues and aquaplaning, creates a high risk of dangerous accidents.
Despite these challenges, the session was completed after a lengthy delay, with Russell qualifying second before receiving a grid penalty for an engine swap. Pole-sitter Lando Norris acknowledged the difficulty of the wet track but expressed optimism about the possibility of a rainy race, noting that the unpredictable conditions at the circuit allow drivers to potentially gain an advantage.
