George Russell expressed frustration following a qualifying session at Interlagos where he felt a team error cost him a potential pole position. Although he secured the second-fastest time, he was instructed to abort his final attempt due to traffic, only for worsening weather to prevent a recovery.
Because of a prior engine-related penalty, he is set to start the upcoming race from seventh position.
Russell emphasized that the outcome resulted from a collective miscalculation regarding radar data and weather timing rather than individual fault. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff characterized the decision as a difficult toss-up, noting that the team lacked the foresight to know if backing off was the correct tactical move.
