Head coach John Sumrall secured a significant recruiting victory for the Gators when four-star offensive tackle Samuel Bailey committed to the program on Monday, September 28. The 6-foot-6, 290-pound prospect from Mae Jemison High School in Huntsville chose Florida over SEC rivals Alabama and Auburn, alongside other major programs like Michigan and Clemson.
Assistant coach Phil Trautwein spearheaded the recruitment of Bailey, who is rated as the 51st overall player in the 2028 cycle by the USA TODAY Sports Composite Rankings.
Bailey made his decision shortly after visiting Gainesville alongside other top prospects to witness the team's commanding 52-28 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday, September 26. His pledge expands the Gators' 2028 recruiting class to three members, joining four-star wide receiver Armani Strong and three-star safety Cyion Smith.
This group currently positions the program 11th in the 247Sports Composite Rankings for that recruiting cycle.
