Jemele Hill, a former ESPN host and current writer for The Athletic, deleted a critical post on Threads after facing intense backlash from fans of Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese. The controversy followed Game 7 of the 2026 WNBA Finals, where Reese recorded 12 rebounds but scored only eight points in 33 minutes, including a fourth quarter in which she did not attempt a shot.
The Atlanta Dream ultimately fell to the Golden State Valkyries by a score of 68-63, ending their championship bid despite Reese earning the 2026 Defensive Player of the Year award. Hill’s original message questioned the reception of Reese’s performance, stating that it was acceptable to acknowledge a bad game relative to the player's established standards.
Critics of the post argued that the scrutiny was disproportionate, noting that Hill had not directed similar comments at Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, whose supporters have long been in conflict with Reese’s fanbase online.
