Everton beat Newcastle again as 10-man Magpies booed off by own fans after dismal display

Everton ended a winless stretch in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park, snapping a two-game losing skid. The Toffees’ Thierno Barry sealed the win with a clinical finish in the 52nd minute, capitalizing on a loose ball after a VAR review for offside ruled out an earlier goal attempt.

The match took a dramatic turn in stoppage time when Newcastle’s Jacob Ramsey was sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession, leaving the Magpies with 10 men and deepening their struggles under manager Matthias Jaissle. Newcastle, who had already faced heavy criticism from their own fans—booed at halftime and full-time—slipped to 13th in the table after another disappointing performance, despite creating early chances.

Everton, meanwhile, extended their recent form with back-to-back wins over Newcastle, having defeated them 3-1 in the Carabao Cup just four days prior. Both teams made two lineup changes, with Newcastle fielding Anthony Elanga and Joelinton up front, while Everton’s Harrison Armstrong and Jarrad Branthwaite came off the bench.

The result further exposed Newcastle’s defensive vulnerabilities, as goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made several crucial saves, including a late stop from Joe Willock’s header.
