The Detroit Lions, still searching for answers in their secondary after falling short in trade talks for Joey Porter Jr., have a new potential target in Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Kristian Fulton. The 26-year-old, a former Titans and Chargers player, has struggled with consistency since joining the Chiefs on a two-year, $20 million deal in 2025.
After a strong 2024 season with the Chargers—posting 51 tackles, seven passes defended, and a 68.9 PFF grade—Fulton’s production with Kansas City has been erratic. Injuries and limited playing time have kept him off the field for much of the season, though he has shown flashes of his talent when active, including a 76.0 PFF grade and an interception in Week 3 against the Dolphins.
His inconsistent usage suggests the Chiefs may be open to a trade, especially as Fulton’s $9.75 million salary includes $5 million in guaranteed money, potentially making him a cost-effective upgrade for Detroit’s defense.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also floated the idea of acquiring Pittsburgh’s Jalen Ramsey, though availability remains uncertain. The eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, now 31, has maintained elite production since entering the league in 2016, but his prime may be behind him.
While Ramsey’s history of excellence makes him an enticing option, the Lions would need to navigate a crowded market and potential salary concerns to land him. For now, Fulton presents a more immediate opportunity—one that could address Detroit’s secondary needs without breaking the bank.
