England fast bowler Jofra Archer has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Sussex, securing his future at the county for another 12 seasons since his debut in 2016. The 31-year-old has been a key figure for Sussex, amassing 223 first-class wickets at an average of 25.17, though his career has been disrupted by injuries, including a four-year absence from red-ball cricket before his return in June 2025.
Archer’s comeback included a Test return against India in July 2025, followed by a strong performance in the 2025-2026 Ashes series, where he took nine wickets before a side-strain injury sidelined him in the third Test. He recovered in time for the summer Tests against New Zealand and Pakistan, finishing with 23 wickets across five matches, underscoring his continued impact at the highest level.
Archer’s decision to stay at Sussex reflects his long-standing connection to the club, where he has thrived since joining in 2016. Incoming head coach Matt Walker praised Archer as a world-class asset, emphasizing the importance of retaining such talent as Sussex aims to strengthen its lineup across all formats.
The extension marks another chapter in Archer’s career, balancing his international commitments with county cricket as he continues to be a cornerstone for both England and Sussex.
