India’s Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) has announced a split captaincy for their upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand, with Shubman Gill leading the team in the first three matches and Shreyas Iyer taking over for the final two. The decision follows a brief gap between the Test series and the ODI fixtures, with Gill’s deputy role in the initial games transitioning to Iyer, who will be supported by wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan as vice-captain.
Senior batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will feature in all five ODIs, while all-rounders Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, and Naman Dhir remain in both squads. Notably, wicketkeeper KL Rahul and pacers Anshul Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna will appear only in the first three matches, with Prasidh’s selection contingent on his fitness after a hamstring injury.
For the last two ODIs, the squad introduces left-handed batter Tilak Varma, pacer Auqib Nabi, and debutants Kumar Kushagra and Yash Thakur, marking their first ODI call-ups. The series kicks off on November 4 at Eden Park in Auckland, with matches scheduled through November 15, all beginning at 7:30 AM IST.
