The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted four prominent figures—including former India opener Wasim Jaffer and international player Ramesh Powar—for interviews as part of the selection process to fill the vacant chairman role on the senior national selection committee. The vacancy emerged after Ajit Agarkar stepped down, prompting the Ashok Malhotra-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to evaluate candidates.
Jaffer, who played 31 Test matches and two ODIs for India, stands out with the highest number of Test appearances among potential candidates, a factor that could influence his selection and potential leadership of the committee. His extensive domestic career, including over 19,000 first-class runs, adds depth to his profile, while Powar brings both international playing experience and coaching credentials, having previously served as head coach of the Indian women’s team.
Also interviewed were Connor Williams and Jacob Martin, both with strong domestic cricket backgrounds. The selection process could reshape the leadership of the committee, with Jaffer’s candidacy adding a new layer to the discussion, especially if he is appointed.
Meanwhile, Powar’s earlier consideration for the junior selection committee chairman role may now shift to Dodda Ganesh, another former India international, following Powar’s focus on the senior panel.
