The DP World Tour has announced it will no longer permit players to maintain dual memberships with LIV Golf in 2027, marking a significant shift in its stance on competing tours. According to DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings, players must now choose between the two circuits, with non-compliance risking termination of their membership.
This decision follows a period where LIV players—including those who paid fines for conflicting events—were allowed to compete on both tours, though LIV covered those penalties until 2025. The tour’s new policy comes as LIV’s restructuring under its proposed $300 million financing deal with BC Partners Credit approaches, with an October 25 deadline for players to commit to 'LIV 2.0.' The league’s revised structure, which includes reduced purse sizes and a shift toward player ownership, has raised concerns among DP World Tour officials, who view it as a potential conflict of interest.
Players applying for 2027 memberships must disclose any other tour commitments, with violations potentially leading to expulsion. The move could impact high-profile LIV players like Jon Rahm, David Puig, and Sergio Garcia, who have recently signaled intentions to leave the league, while others such as Tyrrell Hatton and Tom McKibbin may face restrictions under the new rules.
LIV’s 2027 schedule remains unpublished due to ongoing bankruptcy proceedings in New Jersey, adding uncertainty to the situation.
