Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti singled out Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith as a standout talent ahead of the Hoosiers' upcoming matchup with the Buckeyes. Smith, who has been dominant this season with 48 catches for 916 yards and 11 touchdowns—figures ranking second nationally—has set multiple Ohio State career records, including receptions (211), receiving yards (3,474), and touchdown catches (38).
His recent performance against Illinois, where he recorded career-highs with 12 catches, 217 yards, and four touchdowns, underscored his elite status. Cignetti described Smith as a 'wow player,' emphasizing his unmatched skill at this level, particularly after Smith’s explosive stretch of nine touchdown catches in the last three or four games.
The Hoosiers will need to rely on their secondary, particularly fifth-year corner Jamari Sharpe, to contain Smith, who has thrived against Indiana in past meetings, including an eight-catch, 144-yard performance in last year’s Big Ten title game. Indiana’s defense will also face the challenge of adjusting to Smith’s versatility, as he ranks fourth in the FBS in yards after catch (313) and is tied for third in contested catches (nine).
