The collapse of LIV Golf could reshape Europe’s Ryder Cup squad as top players face a critical choice between the defunct Saudi-backed league and the DP World Tour. With LIV filing for bankruptcy after losing Saudi funding, stars like Tyrrell Hatton, Adrian Meronk, Thomas Detry, and Victor Perez—who currently hold dual membership—must decide whether to return to the DP World Tour to secure Ryder Cup eligibility for 2027.
Jon Rahm, who joined LIV in 2024, is expected to abandon the tour entirely, leaving others in a similar predicament. Until now, DP World Tour members who defected to LIV risked fines and suspensions but could still compete if they resolved sanctions, as Rahm and Hatton did earlier this year.
Now, with the Ryder Cup in Ireland less than a year away, European players must prioritize earning points on the DP World Tour to compete for a spot on Luke Donald’s team, which has remained largely unchanged in his past two captaincies. The influx of talent could force Donald to reconsider his selections, as the qualifying process has tightened with only six spots now up for grabs through performance on the tour and majors.
