Cristiano Ronaldo's long Portugal goodbye leaves complicated legacy

At 41 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo has officially concluded his 23-year tenure with the Portuguese national squad. The forward exits the international stage holding a record of 146 goals across 234 total appearances for his country.

His departure follows a recent 30-day suspension related to internal misconduct and a subsequent exit from the team camp last month. While the Portuguese Football Federation intends to host a formal tribute for the veteran, his final chapter with the national side has been marked by significant friction.

Ronaldo confirmed the decision via a social media video, stating his intent to relinquish the number seven jersey.
