Dallas made a major defensive adjustment on Wednesday by trading for Pittsburgh cornerback Joey Porter Jr. The deal sends a 2028 second-rounder and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Steelers in exchange for the standout cover man.
Porter had been holding out from the Steelers due to a contract dispute, causing him to sit out the first three games of the current season. Dallas badly needed reinforcements in the secondary following recent injuries to Cobie Durant and Shavon Revel Jr.
Porter enters the final year of his rookie contract, leaving his long-term future in Texas completely unresolved as an impending free agent next year. Christian Parker's defensive scheme relies heavily on press-man cornerbacks capable of holding their ground in isolation without extra safety assistance.
While Porter excels in boundary coverage and disrupting receiver timing, he brings concerns regarding his tackling consistency, run support, zone coverage awareness, and low interception totals.
