Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young delivered another standout performance on *Sunday Night Football*, throwing for 329 yards and two touchdowns in a 32-26 victory over the Detroit Lions. The win marked his first prime-time victory and came despite the Panthers operating without two of their top wide receivers, Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, as well as rookie tight end Chris Brazzell, who suffered a season-ending injury in training camp.
Young’s leadership has been remarkable this season, as he now leads the NFL in passing yards and first downs while ranking third in touchdown passes and seventh in yards per attempt—all while facing relentless pressure from a beleaguered offensive line, which is surrendering sacks at a 46.3% rate, the highest in the league outside of Justin Herbert’s struggles.
Young’s resurgence follows a rocky start to his NFL career, where he was benched in favor of veteran Andy Dalton just two years ago. This season, however, the Panthers’ offensive coordinator, Brad Idzik—who took over play-calling duties from Dave Canales this offseason—has implemented a more aggressive passing game.
Under Idzik, Young has thrived, leading the league in completions of 10+ yards and tying for second in 20-yard completions, proving his ability to stretch the field despite not possessing a prototypical arm. With the Panthers at 2-2 and aiming for consecutive playoff appearances, Young’s performance raises questions about whether his success can be sustained amid ongoing offensive line and receiver challenges.
