Brighton hit FIVE to leave Coventry without point or goal

Brighton climbed into fourth place as the top-scoring team in the Premier League after delivering a crushing 5-0 defeat to Coventry at the CBS Arena, keeping the newly promoted side scoreless and without a point. The Seagulls launched the opening seven attempts across the first 20 minutes before the hosts responded with eight straight efforts, only for Charalampos Kostoulas to break the deadlock for the visitors prior to halftime.

A frantic opening half produced 21 combined attempts—the highest tally in any league fixture this campaign—yet Bart Verbruggen preserved the clean sheet by turning away a Jack Rudoni volley and tipping Frank Onyeka's powerful drive over the bar.

Frank Lampard's squad saw any chance of a recovery vanish early in the second period when Malick Yalcouye beat a hesitant Aurele Florian Amenda to double the margin, shortly before Taiwo Awoniyi received a red card for an elbow on Maxim De Cuyper. Brighton fully exploited their numerical advantage after Bobby Thomas brought down Kostoulas in the area, allowing Pascal Gross to convert from the penalty spot past Carl Rushworth.

Lewis Dunk subsequently fired a spectacular long-range shot into the upper corner, and Yasin Ayari capped the rout with a fifth goal in stoppage time.
