Baylor Bears wide receiver Gavin Freeman is dominating the Big 12 conference with his receiving prowess, even if his total yardage and touchdown count don’t match the league’s top performers. While Malachi Toney and Jeremiah Smith each lead the conference with over 1,000 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, Freeman has quietly become the conference’s most reliable target.
With 63 receptions—fourth nationally and the most in the Big 12—he outpaces Smith (62) and trails only Toney (73). Though Arizona State’s Reed Harris edges him in total yards (804 to Freeman’s 792), Freeman’s efficiency is unmatched, averaging 12.6 yards per catch and ranking second in the Big 12 in yards after the catch (YAC) at 6.5 yards per reception, just behind Toney.
His impact is further highlighted by 44 of his receptions moving the chains or scoring touchdowns, placing him first in the Big 12 and seventh nationally in impact catches. Freeman’s versatility—whether catching short passes for first downs, stretching defenses on deep routes, or turning medium-length throws into explosive gains—has made him Baylor’s most consistent offensive weapon this season, earning him a spot on the Biletnikoff Award watchlist.
