Baker Mayfield loses three fumbles in Week 1

Baker Mayfield suffered a brutal start to his ninth NFL campaign as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell 33-27 to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Days after signing a massive three-year extension worth $165 million following a training camp standoff, the quarterback coughed up three lost fumbles during the defeat.

Another fumble by running back Bucky Irving brought Tampa Bay's turnover total to four, handing head coach Todd Bowles his first opening-week defeat with the franchise.

The loss marked Mayfield's first Week 1 defeat across four years with the Buccaneers. Despite an attempted second-half comeback from a 14-point deficit at the break, the missteps proved insurmountable, prompting Mayfield to shoulder the blame directly after the game.
