Alexander Zverev makes comment about the number-one ranking after hearing Jannik Sinner will miss the Shanghai Masters

Alexander Zverev has acknowledged his ambition to claim the top spot in the ATP rankings following the news that Jannik Sinner will sit out the upcoming Shanghai Masters due to an injury. Zverev currently trails Sinner by 1280 points, though that margin could shrink significantly depending on the outcome of the China Open.

Before focusing on ranking milestones, Zverev must first prepare for a difficult quarter-final clash in Beijing against Novak Djokovic, who holds an undefeated record at the tournament.
