8 seeds to beat a 1 seed in WNBA: Complete history of biggest first-round playoff upsets

During the 2026 postseason, the New York franchise achieved a historic milestone by eliminating the Minnesota Lynx in the opening round. Powered by a dominant home performance where Jonquel Jones, Breanna Stewart, and Sabrina Ionescu combined for sixty points, the lower-seeded squad secured a ninety-one to seventy-five victory followed by an eighty-seven to seventy-one triumph.

This accomplishment marks the initial instance in league history where an eighth seed advanced past the top-ranked opponent since the format returned to a best-of-three series structure in 2022.
