Australia holds the upper hand in the third Test after Josh Inglis recorded a century to help his side reach 429. South Africa struggled in response, ending the third day at 140 for four with a narrow 40-run lead.
Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon were instrumental in dismantling the South African batting order, with the latter removing captain Temba Bavuma late in the day. Earlier, Inglis and Alex Carey built a significant 185-run partnership before the Australian tail folded.
South Africa now faces a difficult task to defend their slim advantage with only six wickets remaining.
