Ruturaj Gaikwad has bolstered his case for a Test debut following a century for Maharashtra during their Ranji Trophy match against Jharkhand. Batting at an unusual seventh position, he finished unbeaten on 101 from 172 balls, anchoring a 182-run partnership with Ankit Bawne to help his side reach 527 for 5.
This performance highlights his technical proficiency against both pace and spin, as well as his adaptability in the batting order. Across 49 first-class appearances, Gaikwad now boasts 3,466 runs at an average exceeding 44, including 10 centuries and 18 half-centuries.
His recent form, which follows a strong previous season where he averaged 82.00, positions him as a potential candidate for India's upcoming series against Australia.
