David Hemp has taken over as the head coach of the Bangladesh women's national cricket team on a two-year agreement extending through September 2028, stepping into the role previously held by Sarowar Imran. Hemp, whose tenure began immediately with his arrival in Brisbane ahead of a three-match one-day international series against Australia, previously worked within the Bangladesh setup as a batting coach during global qualifying tournaments.
His prior experience also includes leading Pakistan's women's team and managing the Bangladesh High Performance programme.
The upcoming fixtures against the top-ranked Australian side at Allan Border Field provide an essential early measuring stick for the squad as they seek to develop against elite competition. While acknowledging the immense challenge posed by the world's leading team across formats, Hemp expressed enthusiasm about returning to a familiar environment and guiding the players through this rigorous examination.
