Fifteen-year-old opening batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made history at the Asian Games by becoming the youngest Indian to secure a gold medal. During the cricket tournament final against Pakistan, Sooryavanshi contributed a quick nine-ball 15 as the Indian squad set a target of 211 runs for six wickets in their allotted twenty overs.
The bowling lineup successfully defended the total, restricting the opposition to fall short by 19 runs and claiming the championship title. This milestone surpassed the previous record held by shooter Saurabh Choudhary, who earned his gold at the 2018 Jakarta Games at over sixteen years of age.
Additionally, Sooryavanshi established himself as the second-youngest Indian medalist across all disciplines at the event, sitting just behind speed skater Sanjana Bathula while placing ahead of squash competitor Anahat Singh.
