Ahead of the five-match ODI series against New Zealand, India captain Shubman Gill confirmed that the top four batting slots are locked in with right-handers, while the No. 5 and No.
6 positions will remain flexible. Gill explained that Axar Patel may be deployed to provide left-handed balance, with KL Rahul also in contention depending on match conditions.
The series kicks off on Wednesday at Eden Park in Auckland, followed by matches in Wellington, Hamilton, and Mount Maunganui. Gill also addressed lingering concerns about his neck, noting that he recently recovered from a cervical disc bulge and spasm that sidelined him for nearly a month.
He stated that he has completed full batting and fielding sessions without any discomfort or issues.
