Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a career-best 43 points to guide his team to a 117-112 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, ending a two-game losing skid and improving their record to 5-2. Despite shooting just 40% from the field on 35 attempts, a personal high, the two-time MVP delivered a decisive three-pointer with 32.6 seconds left to secure the lead after the game was tied at 112.
The win came while the Thunder managed without several key contributors, including Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, Cason Wallace, and Alex Caruso, who are all dealing with long-term or acute injuries. Gilgeous-Alexander also recorded eight assists, three rebounds, and two steals, while Ajay Mitchell provided 20 points and five rebounds as part of a makeshift starting lineup that included Jaylin Williams, Kenrich Williams, and Isaiah Hartenstein.
Reflecting on the team's resilience, Gilgeous-Alexander noted that the squad is simply figuring things out and playing the cards they are dealt.
