Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has addressed public curiosity regarding his absence from the national squad's recent white-ball tour of Pakistan. Observers had noticed him attending a golf tournament in Delhi while the team played abroad, prompting the former batsman to clarify his professional status.
Taking to social media, Pietersen explained that he serves as a consultant rather than a full-time employee of the England and Wales Cricket Board. He emphasized that his advisory role does not require him to accompany the team on every overseas assignment.
Appointed earlier this year, Pietersen holds a mentoring contract with England's limited-overs setup that extends through the 2027 ODI World Cup. His coaching colleagues within the organization include Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel, Sarah Taylor, and white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum.
This advisory position marks his return to the national setup roughly twelve years following the conclusion of his playing career after the 2013-14 Ashes series. His initial mentoring duties commenced during the squad's home series against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
