Former national team batter Mohammad Kaif has criticized the team leadership's choice to bench fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar following three matches in the ongoing five-game series against New Zealand. Without Kumar on the field during the fourth fixture, the squad suffered a heavy 87-run defeat in Auckland.
Kaif argued that all bowlers from both sides struggled with high economy rates and leaked runs, making the decision to drop the returning 36-year-old prematurely harsh especially since the series had already been secured after victories in the opening three encounters led by Shreyas Iyer.
