‘Don’t Get Totally Railroaded’: LIV Golf’s Crisis Gives DP World Tour a Chance to Turn the Tables on PGA Tour

October 13, 2026

The DP World Tour’s alliance with the PGA Tour, which began in November 2020 and runs through 2035, is being tested by turmoil at LIV Golf. Financial strain on the Saudi‑backed league could push players toward the European circuit, giving the DP World Tour extra leverage in its strategic talks with the PGA Tour, though the American circuit still holds dominant negotiating power.

Analyst Brendan Porath said the influx of LIV talent provides the DP World Tour with “a little bit of juice” but cautioned that the tour must avoid being completely dominated by the PGA Tour.

DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings acknowledged the partnership’s financial support – including the PGA Tour’s increased stake in European Tour Productions from 15% to 40% and subsidies for prize funds – while noting the pathway for the top ten non‑exempt DP World Tour players to earn PGA Tour cards. The potential shift in power comes as the PGA Tour may reconsider the alliance amid the European circuit’s recent financial losses, and the DP World Tour prepares for next year’s Ryder Cup.
