Get startedMichael Brennan, fresh off his third PGA Tour victory and second win in five starts, revealed details about a little-known Titleist prototype 3-wood that played a key role in his latest success at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan. The event, played on a relatively short 7,322-yard course, saw Brennan dominate off the tee, leading the field in fairway accuracy—missing just five greens all week—and ranking eighth in driving distance despite not always needing maximum distance.
His standout performance earned him a seven-stroke advantage in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee, the best of his season, and he credited the Titleist GTS 3W Prototype for its consistency. Brennan first tested the club in March at the Texas Children’s Houston Open but kept its specifications under wraps, even as other top players like Justin Thomas and Cameron Young experimented with it.
The prototype stands out with a single central sole weight—unlike its siblings, the GTS2 and GTS3, which feature flippable heel and toe weights—and a larger, flatter profile designed to improve spin consistency and launch. Brennan praised its ability to maintain predictable flight whether he toed or heeled the ball, calling it a game-changer after switching to it mid-season.
Titleist has already released the GTS2 and GTS3 fairway woods, but the GTS 3W Prototype remains exclusive to select players, with Brennan and Jackson Koivun among the few to use it in competition. The club’s silver face, introduced this year to enhance perceived loft, aligns with Brennan’s preference for brighter-faced woods, which he believes helps with ball-striking consistency.
While the prototype’s exact specifications remain scarce, Brennan’s success with it—including his recent win—has sparked curiosity about whether Titleist will bring it to retail in the future.
