Miami Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley has ruled out any plans to bench starting quarterback Malik Willis after the team’s dismal 0-5 start. When asked about the possibility of rotating in backup Kyle McCord for Week 7, Hafley dismissed the idea outright, emphasizing that Willis remains the team’s designated starter.
The Dolphins’ struggles have been evident, with Willis posting a 68.4 passer rating—the lowest among all qualified quarterbacks—while completing just 73 of 130 attempts for 849 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions in five games. Despite the poor results, Hafley framed the issue as a collective challenge, noting that offensive efficiency must improve across the board, from receivers and tight ends to protection and execution.
While the Dolphins showed promise in their rushing attack last week, amassing 200 yards against a strong defense, Hafley stressed that the passing game remains a critical weak point. The coach expressed confidence in the team’s ability to turn things around, acknowledging that progress will require buy-in from every unit on the field.
