Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has publicly advocated for opening batsman Abhishek Sharma to earn selection in India's fifty-over lineup ahead of the upcoming 2027 World Cup. Yuvraj stressed that the explosive left-hander has delivered continuous productivity in white-ball formats and warned that ignoring such output would constitute a failure by team selectors.
In addition to Abhishek, the veteran cricketer urged management to provide opportunities in the longer limited-overs format to Ishan Kishan and young prospect Vaibhav Sooryavanshi prior to the tournament. Abhishek's T20 international credentials were firmly solidified during a bilateral series against the West Indies spanning late September and mid-October 2026, where he shattered the record for reaching two thousand runs in the shortest format by needing a mere one thousand twenty-four deliveries.
His recent record also features blistering centuries achieved off thirty balls against Afghanistan and thirty-five balls against New Zealand.
