Yuvraj Singh backs Abhishek Sharma as future India captain

During a Mumbai promotional event on October 30, Yuvraj Singh identified Abhishek Sharma as a potential future leader for the Indian cricket team. Yuvraj highlighted Sharma's supportive nature toward younger players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as evidence of his leadership maturity.

The former all-rounder also suggested that securing an IPL captaincy role is a vital prerequisite for any player aspiring to lead the national squad. This perspective follows Yuvraj's previous criticism regarding the decision by Sunrisers Hyderabad to appoint Ishan Kishan as captain over Sharma for the 2026 season.

Additionally, Yuvraj advocated for the BCCI to provide more ODI opportunities to both Sharma and Sooryavanshi.
