Mumbai batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal took a step toward expanding his role in the team by practicing wicketkeeping drills during the lunch break of Day 2 in his Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh. The 21-year-old, who opened the batting for Mumbai and was dismissed for a 13-ball duck in the first innings, has expressed interest in eventually taking on the keeper’s gloves for the franchise or India’s white-ball sides.
His ambition was hinted at by Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad, who noted Jaiswal’s determination to adapt but added that no formal decision has been made. The move has drawn criticism, however, with former Mumbai player Wasim Jaffer questioning its feasibility, citing the physical demands of wicketkeeping and the presence of established keepers like Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant in the national setup.
Jaiswal’s future in the role remains uncertain, with his batting performance under scrutiny as Mumbai prepare for an upcoming tour of New Zealand.
