The DP World Tour has announced a strict policy requiring golfers to choose between its circuit and LIV Golf, effectively banning those who join the rival league from participating in the 2027 season. CEO Guy Kinnings emphasized that the European tour's regulations are designed to protect its status as a member-based organization, noting that players must commit to these rules to maintain eligibility for the Ryder Cup.
This shift follows a period where conditional releases were granted to high-profile athletes, but the tour now views the equity-based model of LIV Golf as fundamentally incompatible with its own structure. With the DP World Tour deadline set for November 16 and LIV Golf requiring player commitments by October 25, the decision also arrives amidst ongoing negotiations regarding a strategic partnership with the PGA Tour.
While LIV Golf recently secured potential funding of $300 million, the landscape remains fluid as some prominent figures, including Jon Rahm, have signaled their intention to step away from the breakaway circuit.
