Georgia rose to No. 1 in the newest Associated Press college football rankings released on Sunday, following a 20-17 victory against Alabama in Saturday's SEC clash.
The Bulldogs secured 66 first-place votes to claim the summit of the AP poll for the first time since the 2024 campaign. According to Yahoo Sports, Georgia received every first-place ballot except for three.
The triumph against Alabama validated the Bulldogs following a light beginning to the 2026 schedule where their initial three SEC matchups came against the conference's three lowest-rated offensive units. Georgia maintains an unblemished 6-0 overall record and a 4-0 mark in conference action as the team prepares to host Auburn in Week 7.
The rest of the AP rankings experienced major reshuffling following weekend action. Texas tumbled six positions down to No.
7 after a defeat against Oklahoma in the Red River Showdown, with the Longhorns also sliding out of the top five in the Coaches Poll. LSU fell 12 places to No.
22 after suffering a road setback against Kentucky. Following a road defeat against South Carolina, Florida dropped out of the AP Top 25 poll.
Kentucky vaulted directly from the unranked ranks up to No. 15 in the AP poll. UCLA also registered a massive ascent, jumping nine places in the poll after winning on the road against Oregon. That result pushed the Ducks down to a 3-2 record on the season and out of the poll entirely.
Northwestern entered the rankings for the first time since 2020 after moving to 4-1 with a 45-14 victory over Ball State. In the Coaches Poll, the Wildcats finished as the first team left outside the rankings.
