Winless Spurs in relegation zone after Villa claim first victory

Tottenham Hotspur slipped into the relegation places following a 3-2 home defeat against Aston Villa, leaving Roberto De Zerbi's side winless entering the international hiatus. Spurs dominated early opportunities, but Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki denied Savio twice and thwarted substitute Archie Gray, who had replaced the injured Pedro Porro.

While Tottenham captain Micky Van de Ven was off receiving care for a facial blow from Tyrone Mings, Johan Manzambi struck in first-half stoppage time to put the visitors in front. Mohammed Kudus saw a potential equalizer chalked off for an Andy Robertson offside detected by VAR, before Nicolas Jackson slipped past Van de Ven to drill in Villa's second.

Emi Buendia stretched the advantage to three with a long-range 25-yard strike that triggered chants mocking De Zerbi from the traveling supporters. Conor Gallagher ultimately snapped Tottenham's four-match scoring drought with an 86th-minute effort, and Jan Paul van Hecke added a stoppage-time header, but the rally fell short as Villa secured their first victory of the season.

The result leaves Tottenham with just five wins across their past 36 home outings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
