During the Sunday singles session at Medinah Country Club, top-ranked American competitor Scottie Scheffler stepped in to chide a spectator who shouted out during the backswing of Colombian rookie Nico Echavarría on the fourteenth hole. Scheffler had built an early four-point lead through ten holes before Echavarría started mounting a recovery during the tense final round.
Following the distracting crowd noise that forced a poor tee shot, Scheffler later conceded a long par putt to his opponent, resulting in a halved hole on the fourteenth as the United States pursued a comeback against the International Team.
