Where Deshaun Watson stands with Browns after disastrous Week 1

Deshaun Watson took the field for his first NFL start in 693 days, but the Cleveland Browns suffered a crushing 34-10 loss to Liam Coen's Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium. Jacksonville seized total control early by reaching the end zone on four of its initial six drives, establishing a 31-0 cushion less than three minutes into the second half.

Watson, who had competed with Shedeur Sanders for the primary role throughout the offseason, struggled alongside his teammates in Todd Monken's debut as Cleveland's head coach.

Despite mounting public backlash calling for Monken's dismissal following the lopsided opener, the coach dismissed questions regarding his job stability. Although Monken had initially declined to guarantee Watson's position and Watson admitted thinking his tenure had ended, the team officially resolved its Week 2 dilemma.

Cleveland intends to maintain Watson as the starting quarterback for the upcoming road clash against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
