The UFC has released undefeated bantamweight prospect Farid Basharat from its roster following the expiration of his contract after a unanimous decision victory over John Garza at UFC 329 in July. Despite a flawless 16-0 MMA record—including a 7-0 mark inside the Octagon—Basharat was not offered a new deal, leaving him as a free agent.
His departure drops him from the UFC’s official rankings, where he was previously ranked 13th at bantamweight. The move mirrors a similar situation with his brother, Javid Basharat, who was also released by the UFC after a win and later joined the PFL, raising speculation about Farid’s potential future in that promotion ahead of its 2027 merger with MVP MMA.
Basharat’s UFC journey began in 2022 after winning on Dana White’s Contender Series, but his lack of finishes in the Octagon—six of his wins came by decision—may have contributed to the promotion’s decision not to retain him, despite his undefeated streak and rising status in the sport.
