Mizzou Men’s Golf takes fifth at Bryson Invitational

The Missouri men’s golf team secured a strong fifth-place finish at the Bryson Invitational, posting a 3-over total at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami. Their performance was anchored by a 2-under final round, with the Tigers navigating the challenging par-72 Blue Monster course over three rounds.

Junior Trent Mierl led the charge with a career-best second-place individual finish, compiling a six-under total fueled by five birdies and an eagle in his opening round. Senior Veikka Viskari also shone, tying for fourth and marking his second top-five result of the season after a standout final round that included five birdies and an eagle, propelling him eight spots up the leaderboard.

Freshman Antoni Hawkins, junior Paxton Maxwell, and sophomore Esteban Cruz Bonilla rounded out the team with mixed results, though the Tigers capitalized on the par-5 holes in the third round, averaging 10 strokes under par on those greens alone. Despite struggles on tricky holes like the 470-yard par-4s (7 and 14), where every player bogeyed at least once, Missouri’s strategic play on longer holes helped them achieve their best round of the tournament.

Charleston claimed the victory with a 19-under score, while Michigan and Washington State followed in second and third, respectively. The Tigers will next face off against Michigan at the upcoming Abilene Christian Intercollegiate in Granbury, Texas, starting October 19.
