The Seattle Seahawks have backed out of plans to sign veteran running back Joe Mixon after he underwent a physical with the team. Despite earlier reports suggesting Mixon would join the practice squad, the team decided against the move, leaving the 30-year-old free agent once again.
Mixon’s NFL return had been shrouded in uncertainty after missing the entire 2025 season due to an unexplained foot injury, which led him to tell former teammates he was retiring. However, he recently hinted at a comeback, and reports emerged that he would work out for Seattle.
The Seahawks instead added Robert Henry Jr. to their backfield from the Washington Commanders’ practice squad, leaving them with Emanuel Wilson, George Holani, Henry, and Velus Jones Jr.
as their primary running backs for Week 5. Jacardia Wright remains on the practice squad, while Zach Charbonnet is expected to return from injury but will not play against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.
