College football analyst Max Chadwick argues that wide receivers Malachi Toney, Jesse Legree, and Jeremiah Smith deserve to be among the four Heisman Trophy finalists this season. He suggests that having three wideouts as finalists would be an unprecedented development, as the award is typically dominated by quarterbacks.
Toney currently leads all FBS receivers with a 99.9 impact grade, having recorded 952 yards and 11 touchdowns for Miami. Chadwick notes that Toney's production, including a school-record 16-catch performance against Pittsburgh, makes him a stronger candidate than his own quarterback, Darian Mensah.
